Abstract

The purposes of this study were a computer-assisted instruction package on sound and sound typing practice of English and Thai alphabets, a pre-test and post-test, and an aptitude test. The students trained with the developed CAI had to read, and listen to the instruction. To develop the CAI package, the frequency of alphabets and words appeared in distinguished Machine engineering theses were counted, using Character Frequency Analyzer software so that the lessons and the exercise after each lesson could be provided. The lessons were arranged from the alphabets most to least frequently appeared. Pre-test and post-test were used to collect the data. The subjects were tested again two weeks after the experiment was over. There were 13 Thai typing lessons 10 English typing lessons in the constructed CAI package. The efficiency (E1/E2) of Thai and English CAI was 78.01/75.33and 76.59/75.15 which higher than the set criteria of 75/75. The comparison mean scores of touch type skill of the experimental groups for Thai and English languages. The mean difference was statistically significance at .05 level. CAI were Mean Th(Post) = 78.01, S.D. = 7.06 and Mean Eng (Post ) = 76.59, S.D. = 10.19. The control group for Thai and English languages. CAI were Mean Th(Post ) = 66.71, S.D. = 6.51 and Mean Eng(Post ) = 64.30, S.D. = 7.51. The mean difference was statistically significance at .05 level. The mean scores of the test to practice Thai and English languages’ s students after the end of every training lesson and then 2 weeks later. Found that the mean score of both group were difference. The mean scores of the experimental groups for Thai and English languages ΔX Th = -2.50, S.D. = 1.53 and ΔX Eng = -2.11, S.D. = 1.76. The mean scores of the control groups for Thai and English languages ΔX Th = -3.23, S.D. = 1.81 and ΔX Eng = -3.23, S.D. = 0.90 The mean difference was statistically significance at .05 level. Correlation between the mean score form the aptitude test and the training score for Thai and English languages was 0.68 and 0.88 which was at high level.
