Model Development for Staff to Become Executives of Hotel Industry

Abstract


This research aimed to determine the management components, develop the model, and create the manual for preparing the staff of four-star hotels in Thailand to be the first level executives. The Ethnographic Delphi Futures Research (EDFR) method was used. The statistics used were mean, standard deviation, median and interquartile range. Based on the EDFR method, seven participants, namely top level hotel executives, hotel management expert and human resource development expert, were interviewed in depth. Then the results from the interviews were used to developed a questionnaire which was distributed to 18 four-star hotel managers. After that, the model was developed, and the focus group with 14 hotel management experts was used to test the reliability of the model. Finally, the manual was created, and it was evaluated by five experts. The results showed that there were three management components for the model: the management process, human resource development process, and success factors for human resource development. For the management process, there were 17 indicators of management competency and 26 indicators of management functions. In the human resource development process, five steps for developing human resource were Needs, Content, Training Techniques, Implement, Evaluation, and there were 23 indicators for this process. For the last component, the success factors for human resource development, there were six indicators. Moreover, from this research the preparation manual was produced. The manual was divided into two parts: how to use the manual and the guidelines for human resource development.
