Abstract

The objectives of this experimental-based research were to 1) develop a mobile application to enhance English pronunciation skill with Flipped Classroom Technique for 3rd Grade Students, 2) evaluate the efficiency of the developed mobile application, 3) compare students’ learning achievement after learning with the mobile application with Flipped classroom techniques, and 4) evaluate students’ satisfaction after learning with the mobile application. The mobile application used voice recognition and Text-to-Speech to enhance the pronunciation skill and made students able to audibly interact with the application. Forty 3rd grade students were randomly selected as samples in the experiment. Tools used in the research consisted of (1) experimental tool, which was the mobile application approved by 5 experts, and (2) data collection tools, including pretest, pronunciation skill score sheet, posttest, and satisfactory evaluation form. The results showed that 1) the mobile application to enhance English pronunciation skill, able to interact with students by showing correct pronunciation and processing students’ voice, passed the expert evaluation with a very good level (X̅ = 4.67, S.D. = 0.50). 2) the efficiency of the developed mobile application system was 86.20/82.14, which was higher than the predefined criteria. 3) posttest’s result showed that students improved their skill significantly at the statistically significant level of .05. and 4) students satisfied the mobile application to enhance English skill at a highest level (X̅ = 4.71, S.D. = 0.44).
